VVIP wards make it to select list Chandigarh, May 4 Significantly, firebrand opposition MLA, Karan Singh Dalal had in October last year presented a list of 10 names to the Press who, he said were made to top the written examinations by manipulation to pave the way for their selection in the HCS. The names of daughter of Mr M.S. Malik, DGP of Haryana; daughter of Mr S.P.S. Rathore, a former DGP, son of Mr Sher Singh Badshami, Chief Minister’s Political Adviser, and HSIDC MD Harbaksh Singh’s sister also figured in the list. The results announced yesterday showed that Ms Sarita Malik, daughter of the DGP, Mr Kuldhir Singh, son of Mr Sher Singh Badshami, and Ms Ranjit Kaur, Mr Harbaksh Singh’s sister are indeed among the 14 candidates selected to the HCS. Mr Surinder Kumar, son of a judicial officer based at Jhajjar, who is also related to Haryana Education Minister, Bahadur Singh, Ms Veena Davas, related to a senior IPS officer of the Haryana cadre, also managed to figure in the list of 14 successful candidates. Mr Ghanashyam Singh, who had co-authored a book with Mr Hardeep Singh, Secretary of HPSC, on HCS examinations, is the only candidate selected for the
District Food and Supplies Controller’s post. Mr Dalal had mentioned about this case, too. Mr Ashok Rawat, son of INLD legislator from Hathin, Bhagwan Sahay Rawat have been chosen for the allied services. Mr Satish Kumar, reportedly related to an HPSC member and Mr Surjit Nehra, allegedly related to another member of the HPSC, have been chosen for Tehsildar’s post. Mr Karan Singh Dalal had included Mr Surjit Nehra’s name in his list of “top 10” candidates. In all six out of the 10 names presented by Mr Dalal have figured in the list of successful candidates . The omission of former DGP S.P.S Rathore’s daughter’s name, from the list of successful candidates is being interpreted as an indication of the IPS officer’s diminishing clout. According to the results, 64 candidates have been recommended for appointment. While 14 candidates have been recommended for the HCS, one has been selected for the District Food and Supplies Controller’s post, four as Excise and Taxation Officers, two as ‘A’ class Tehsildars, 18 as Assistant Excise and Taxation Officers, 18 as Block Development and Panchayat Officers and six as District Food and Supplies Officers. Earlier, responding to Mr Dalal’s charge, Mr K C Bangar, Chairman of the HPSC, had said that he would resign from his post if it was proved that there were irregularities in the HCS examination. While Mr Bangar can still say that the VVIP wards have been selected to the HCS on merit, what continues to baffle is how Mr Dalal could have access to the written test results as the results announced yesterday have shown that the opposition MLA was right on target while making the charges.
