Gill is Modi’s Security Adviser
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, May 2
Celebrated cop K P S Gill will fly into Gandhinagar tomorrow evening as Security Adviser to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

A formal order appointing Mr Gill as Security Adviser to the Gujarat CM was passed today, well-placed sources said here today.

Mr Gill will be given full powers and his appointment is expected to send a strong symbolic message to the minorities in India as well as the international community which have put the Vajpayee government on a mat.

Sources described Mr Gill’s appointment as “politically, administratively and diplomatically correct” because the former Punjab Police chief has an image of a no-nonsense hardcore professional belonging to a minority community.

Mr Gill’s appointment comes in the wake of strong concerns expressed by the international community. Even today, at a meeting between India and the European Union senior officials of the EU raised the Gujarat issue candidly. Mr Gill will be reporting directly to the Chief Minister and no tenure has been fixed for him.
