6 infiltrators shot in Poonch area

The Indian forces foiled a major infiltration bid from across the border when six infiltrators, equipped with highly sophisticated weapons, were killed near the LoC in the Mandi area of Poonch.

In another operation, two militants were killed in the Surankot area of Poonch today.

According to the police, the Indian troops spotted movement in the Indian territory from across the Sathra border belt in Mandi. The intruders were asked to stop, however, they opened fire on the security forces. Six infiltrators were killed in the retaliatory firing.

The police said it was a joint operation launched by the troops and the police.

Sources said more than 200 militants had been brought to the launching pad across Mandi and today’s batch was the first that was pushed into the Poonch sector.

A UNI report from Jammu said 20 kg of RDX were seized at Chore Gali in the Kalakote area of Rajouri district early Saturday morning.

SRINAGAR: The security forces killed two militants during a search operation at Serigufwara in the south Kashmir district of Anantnag on Saturday, official sources said.

The encounter took place after the militants attacked a search party, the sources said. Some arms and ammunition were also seized from the ultras.Back

 

Jawan killed in Pak shelling

Pakistani troops today intensified mortar shelling and heavy firing along the LoC, killing an Army jawan and injuring six others in the Jammu-Poonch and Kargil-Siachen sectors of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said here.

The Pakistani troops, using medium-range weaponry and field gun, resorted to heavy mortar shelling and firing along the LoC in Noushera, Laam, Bhawani, Jala, Kerni, Krishnagati, Balakote, Pallanwala, Bhimbergali and Drass, northern-central Siachen, Chorbat Lal, Batalik and Thang areas of the Ladakh sector since last night, the sources said.

Firing and shelling was continuing in most of the areas in these sectors, they said, adding that over 140-150 mortars were fired at Kalsian and Bokhrani of the Noushera area of the Rajouri sector alone by the Pakistani troops.

In shelling at Kalsian, Army jawan Mahesh was killed and four jawans were injured, the sources said.

He said a civilian each was injured in the Gallar border area of the Jammu sector and Jallas in the Poonch sector today.

There was no loss of life or damage to property in the shelling in the Kargil-Siachen sector, the sources said.

Indian troops guarding the LoC retaliated and heavy exchange of shelling and firing was still on intermittently when the reports last came in from the area. PTIBack
