PU’s April 26 exams postponed

Panjab University has postponed the examinations scheduled for April 26 in the wake of a boycott call by the Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union.

The examinations will now be held on May 8, a university press release said here today.

Sources said the PCCTU had announced its plan to boycott examinations of Punjabi, Guru Nanak Dev and Panjab Universities on one day each. Examinations of Guru Nanak Dev University scheduled for April 24 were cancelled. Teachers are boycotting work in Punjabi University on April 27, the sources said.

Teachers are demanding the release of arrears of their salaries and the implementation of pension and gratuity scheme.

The postponed exams include: BA, BCom, BCA, MA, BEd, MEd, Shastri, Diploma in Statistics, Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Sciences, MCom, MFC, Acharya, Diploma in Vocational Agriculture, MMC, M Sc and Postgraduate Diploma in Health, Family Welfare and Population Education.

However, for the exams for MA (semester system), LLB, BSc (Home Science) and MBA originally scheduled for April 26 there will be no change in the schedule.

The university has said OT, MLL and Shastri examinations, will now be held on May 10. The university has cited administrative reasons for the postponement of the exams.
