Report leak: Bandhu in soup

The Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Mr Jagdish Mukhi, today accused the Delhi Industry Minister, Mr Deep Chand Bandhu, of having committed a breach of privileges of the House by disclosing the contents of the report of the committee chaired by him, which was set up to look into the recommendations of the re-organisation of the MCD, to a cable network.

Diesel buses to ply after deadline?
New Delhi, April 20
The Delhi Government today stated that it has decided to allow 2500 diesel buses, due to be phased out from Monday, to ply on the basis of special permits. However, they would have to pay the fine imposed by the Supreme Court.

Former BJP councillor shot at

Mr Madan Lal Valmiki (45), a former BJP councillor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), sustained bullet injuries today morning when three unidentified assailants fired at him with a country-made weapon in the Shakurpur area of West district.

Three cops hurt in clash over harvesting
Panipat, April 20
Bloody clashes over the harvesting of wheat crop on the “disputed land” on the Haryana-Uttar Pradesh border have begun. In the first clash of the season, three police personnel, who went to a disputed land between Mirzapur village in Panipat district and Sapat village of Muzaffarnagar district in UP on Friday to help the officials in harvesting the crop, were hurt.

Power generation fails to meet target
Faridabad, April 20
The actual addition of power generation during the ninth plan had been a mere 48 per cent of the target. This was stated in a report submitted by the PHD Chambers of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), after a snapshot survey of the power sector.

Students recover from food poisoning

All the 46 students of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Naichana (about 15 km from here), who were taken ill after eating lunch on Thursday, have recovered, according to official information.

The South district police today claimed to have recovered electronic goods worth Rs 2.5 lakh with the arrest of an alleged inter-state gangster, Zakir Hussain, a resident of Faridabad.

The District Consumer Forum has ordered the Noida Authority to remove all illegal constructions and encroachments in Sector 37 here within two months. The forum has also ordered the Greater Noida Authority to pay damages and compensation to allottees in two cases till their land is properly developed and handed over to them.

A fine all-round performance by Ajit Ranjan (44 and 3 for 35) was the high point of National Stadium Coaching Centre’s 59-run victory against Sonnet Club in the title clash of the seventh Maharaja Agarsen Stanford Under-17 Cricket Tournament at the Mohan Meakin ground.

Journalists lift Jag Pravesh Trophy
New Delhi, April 20
Journalists’ XI beat Delhi Assembly by 53 runs to lift the Jag Pravesh Chandra Memorial Cricket Trophy in a limited-over match at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground in the Capital. The Delhi Assembly XI scored 109 runs, while the Journalists scored 162 runs. The Journalists’ XI team was led by Umesh Lakhanpal while DPCC president Subhash Chopra led the Assembly XI. Journalists XI won the toss and opted to bat. Rameshwar Dayal of Dainik Bhaskar was declared the man of the match for emerging the top-scorer.
