Two killed in grenade attack in J-K

Srinagar, April 9
Two pedestrians were killed and nine injured when militants lobbed a grenade at security personnel which missed the target and exploded on the road in Anantnag district of Kashmir today, a police spokesman said.

The militants intended to target a road opening party of the Rashtriya Rifles at Bidder village in Kokernag, 85 km from here, around 10.30 a.m. but the grenade exploded on the road injuring 11 pedestrians, he said.

Two of them, Mohammad Ramzan Hajam and Mohammad Ayub Dar, succumbed to the injuries in hospital.

Of the other injured the condition of four was serious and they were shifted to a hospital here for specialised treatment, the spokesman said. Army personnel cordoned off the area and were conducting house-to-house searches to nab the militants.

Meanwhile, four persons, including three militants, were killed, a woman injured and six houses torched in separate incidents in the Kashmir valley since last night. PTI, UNIBack
