Harbhajan injured in scuffle; fit to play

Guwahati, March 18
Ace off-spinner Harbhajan Singh today sustained “minor injuries” on his left arm following a scuffle with policemen outside the team hotel but would play tomorrow’s one-day match against Zimbabwe.

Indian team manager Sunil Khanna told PTI here that Harbhajan Singh’s injuries were minor and he was in a position to play tomorrow’s one-dayer.

Recounting the incident, Mr Khanna said a Delhi-based photographer Kamal Sharma, had come to meet Harbhajan for a photo shoot but was prevented by the securitymen from entering the hotel. When the off-spinner himself came out to take Sharma in, both were manhandled by the police.

“Sharma had a prior appointment for a photo-shoot with Harbhajan and it was indeed sad that despite the cricketer himself going down to request the police to allow him to come up, such a situation was created,” Khanna said.

He said that the team held an emergency meeting to decide whether to play tomorrow’s match or not. “We decided to go ahead with tomorrow’s match after the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of police apologised for the incident.” PTIBack
