Arundhati Roy released New Delhi, March 7 Having served her one-day symbolic imprisonment and paid a fine of Rs 2,000, she was received by Medha Patkar. Recalling her experience at Tihar, she said: “I met women who have been there for over 20 years, some don’t even know when they will be released. I wanted to stay there instead of paying the fine but realised that it would be making a mockery of what these women were suffering”. She spent the day in jail number six (women’s cell) of the high-security prison. She said she would consult her lawyer on the possibility of challenging the Supreme Court verdict. |
