Tribune News Service

New Delhi, February 19
India today stepped up the diplomatic pressure on Islamabad and asked Pakistan to immediately furnish relevant information on confessions made by Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist, Omar Sheikh, on the terrorist strikes on Parliament House and Jammu and Kashmir Assembly last year.

Pakistan’s Deputy High Commissioner Jalil Abbas Gilani was today summoned to the Ministry of External Affairs and told of India’s disappointment over the Islamabad’s non-compliance of New Delhi’s request.

Speaking to newspersons, an MEA spokesperson said today that Mr Gilani’s attention was drawn to the UN Security Council Resolution 1373. The UN 1373 Resolution mandates all member states to offer greatest assistance in investigations pertaining to terrorist acts.

Mr Arun K. Singh, Joint Secretary in the External Affairs Ministry, told Mr Gilani that current international laws and widespread international consensus mandated all states to provide one another the greatest amount of assistance in connection with criminal activities relating to terrorist acts, including assistance in obtaining evidence in their possession.Back
