India rules out early talks with Pak

New Delhi, January 18
The 21-hour-long India visit of US Secretary of State Colin Powell concluded this afternoon with tangible progress in defusing tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad, but the mood in the Vajpayee government is of no immediate de-escalation or resumption of talks with Pakistan.

Reports from across the border monitored here indicate that though the Pakistan Government had launched a concerted campaign against Islamic extremists spreading disharmony and violence, yet some of the arrests were just an eyewash.

No revision of kerosene, LPG prices
New Delhi, January 18
Union Petroleum Minister, Ram Naik today clarified that there is no proposal under consideration to revise prices, either upward or downward of kerosene and cooking gas. Reacting to reports in a section of the press indicating possibilities of a price hike, the minister said: “Such reports are speculative and there is no truth in such reports”.

Even though the Congress highcommand has ruled out changing party candidates on any seat in Punjab, ticket aspirants from the state continue to come to the AICC to complain about “injustice” to them. Mr Mahesh Inder Singh Badal, who had sought ticket from Lambi and Mr Ripjeet Singh Brar, who was an aspirant from Muktsar, met AICC treasurer Motilal Vora today. They were accompanied by several other supporters of party MP Jagmeet Singh Brar, who is unhappy over distribution of ticket in his parliamentary constituency of Faridkot.
