Eight JuM militants killed in encounter

At least 10 militants and two jawans were killed and nine others injured in separate incidents in the Kashmir valley since yesterday.

The police said here that eight militants of the Jamait-ul-Mujahideen (JuM) including three Pakistanis, were killed in an encounter with the security forces at Dooripora, near Shopian, in Pulwama district of south Kashmir yesterday. A jawan was killed and another injured in the exchange of fire, the police said. Eight AK rifles and a huge quantity of arms and ammunition were seized from the site of the encounter. Four residential houses and four cowsheds were also damaged in the exchange of fire between the militants and the security forces.

The militants killed have been identified as Khalid, Adil and Zabiulla, all from Pakistan, Abdul Salam Itoo, Bahadur Khan, Saifullah Azad Ahmad and Liaqat Ali, all residents of Shopian area, the police stated.

A jawan and a militant were killed in an exchange of fire at Drogmulla in Kupwara district of north Kashmir this morning. The encounter ensued when militants fired upon an Army convoy at 10.30 a.m., leading to the death of a jawan. An unidentified militant was killed in the retaliatory action.

Another unidentified militant was killed in an encounter with the Army at Behak Hamam, Markote, in Dangiwacha area of Baramula district yesterday.

Four Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and a civilian were injured when militants hurled a grenade on a security picket at Batamaloo here last evening.

Three police personnel were injured when militants hurled a grenade on a police post at Sherbagh in Anantnag town this afternoon.

The Army apprehended Bashir Ahmad Dar and Samad Mir at Doodipora in Kupwara district yesterday, a police spokesman said here this evening. Twenty AK rounds, four detonators and 400 gms of explosive material were seized from their possession.

JAMMU (UNI): Four militants, including two Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) ultras, were shot dead in two separate encounters in Rajouri district today.

Army sources said here this evening that in the encounter in the general area in Rajouri, two militants were killed by troops in a fierce encounter after they fired upon Army personnel from a nearby hilltop. Troops retaliated and in the ensuing encounter two ultras were killed.

In another encounter, two JeM ultras who were trying to enter the country by crossing the Line of Control (LoC) near the general area of Sunderbani were shot dead by troops. The slain ultras were identified as Abu Bakr and Abu Wahid, both Pakistani nationals.

Two Kalashnikov rifles, nine magazines, one under barrel grenade launcher (UBGL), six UBGL grenades, 180 rounds of assault ammunitions, a bayonet and a radio set were seized from their possession.

LeT ultra arrested at ISBT

The police yesterday nabbed yet another suspect belonging to the Pakistan-based terrorist outfit, Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), at the ISBT and seized an IED weighing about 5.5 kg consisting of RDX splinters, timers and detonators.

The suspect, Mohammad Yunus, had reportedly come to Delhi for the specific purpose of setting off major explosions in crowded areas. The police claims that with his arrest, a major terrorist strike in the Capital had been averted.

The special cell, which had specific information that a militant would come to Delhi from Muzaffar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, apprehended him when he was alighting from an Uttar Pradesh roadways bus. Yunus (23), resident of Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh had concealed the explosive and the triggering device in his clothes. These were found during a physical search.

On sustained interrogation, he disclosed that he came into contact with the Lashkar’s area commander Bilal in Uttar Pradesh at his brother’s PCO booth in June, Bilal who used to make calls to Srinagar from the PCO had motivated Yunus to join militancy and even took him to Kashmir and Pakistan occupied Kashmir for training in August.

He told the police that he was imparted training in the handling of arms, including AK-47s, besides explosives and chemical bombs. He was also trained to deliver speeches on jehad.

During the second week of December, Yunus was contacted by Bilal, asking him to return to Kashmir where he was again asked to actively participate in jehad. Finally, he was sent to Muzaffar Nagar to meet another militant, Shahzad, to get an IED.
