Home Minister L.K. Advani today called for a methodical approach to effectively document activities of terrorist groups and emphasised on the need to ensure that all places of specific significance, including important pilgrimage centres, should be adequately protected.

This observation from him came during a high-level meeting comprising senior officers of the Home Ministry and heads of paramilitary forces to review internal security in the country here at North Block.

While acknowledging the role played by the security agencies of the Centre as well as the state governments in neutralising various Pakistan-backed modules all over the country, Mr Advani emphasised on the need to tackle terrorism effectively in a coordinated manner.

The meeting was attended by Home Secretary Kamal Pande and Secretary (Internal Security) M.B. Kaushal, among others. It stressed on the need to put into place effective legislation to counter terrorism at the earliest.

Various measures taken by the government to protect vital installations and allied establishments as well as civil aviation security were also deliberated upon during the meeting.

The participants discussed various recent developments, both within as well as in the vicinity of the country, especially after the attacks on the USA, and took note of the measures that had so far been put into place to deal with the situation, sources said.
