Slump in infiltration along LoC: Jagat
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, September 21
The Director General of the BSF, Mr Gurbachan Jagat, today said that there had been a slump in infiltration and exfiltration along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir after the September 11 terrorist attacks on the USA.

“Normally, during this time of the year there is always an escalation in infiltration and exfiltration along the LoC, but there has been no extraordinary movement into or out of the state recently,” Mr Jagat said here after the flag-off ceremony of a trekking expedition of the BSF to Joshimath in Uttaranchal.

This slump could also be due to the call given by Taliban militia in Afghanistan to militants in Jammu and Kashmir to join them in a ‘holy war’ against the USA even as the security forces along the LoC maintained hawks eye on the movements of militants, he said.

The BSF Chief also asserted that the biggest paramilitary force, deployed in Srinagar and Pulwama for counter-militancy operations, had been “very successful” in containing militancy in the Kashmir valley.

Asked about the charges of human rights violations against BSF men, Mr Jagat said the allegations of human rights violations were “exaggeration” of the Hurriyat Conference and some human rights organisations.

“Why are they (Hurriyat and human rights organisations) silent over the terrorist strikes on the USA on September 11,” he asked.

The BSF Chief pointed out that when five to six lakh security personnel from different forces are in the field, there may be some isolated cases of violations. “But we have taken stern action against such erring personnel,” he added.

Earlier, addressing the expedition team, Mr Jagat exhorted “seema praharis” to take active interest in sports specially adventure sports like mountaineering and trekking expeditions since they are vital to the development of body and mind to its full capabilities.
