Taliban ready for talks
USA wants action, not talks

Islamabad, September 19
The leader of Afghanistan’s ruling Taliban today said he was prepared to hold talks with the USA over Osama bin Laden, the Pakistan-based Afghan Islamic Press reported while Washington said it wanted action not talks, even as the Islamic clerics are expected to continue talks tomorrow.

Clerics’ fatwa likely today

Islamabad, September 19
The council of Islamic clerics from Afghanistan’s ruling Taliban is expected to take a final decision on the fate of Osama bin Laden tomorrow.

USA wants Pak airbases near Afghanistan
Islamabad, September 19
As the USA geared up for military action against Afghanistan’s ruling Taliban and Osama bin Laden, prime suspect in last week’s terror attacks in the USA, Pakistan has received indications from American military officials that they want to make “limited use” of air force bases in Peshawar and Quetta, which border Afghanistan.

Under pressure from the USA for playing a positive role in getting Saudi fugitive Osama bin Laden for his suspected role in the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, the Pakistani military establishment is in a state of confusion.

Musharraf: USA not targeting Islam
Islamabad, September 19
Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf tonight said the USA was not targeting Islam or the people of Afghanistan in its pursuit of terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden.

USA cautioned on Pak help
New Delhi, September 19
India today cautioned the USA about seeking Pakistan’s cooperation in the global war against terrorism, saying that Islamabad itself was sponsoring it. This was conveyed to US Ambassador Robert Blackwill at a meeting he had with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pramod Mahajan.

No IAF bases offered to USA
New Delhi, September 19
India today dismissed as “totally incorrect” reports that three IAF bases had been offered to the USA for launching an attack on terrorist targets in Afghanistan.

Laden commands Afghans with riches, not jehad alone

The most-wanted terrorist in the world, Osama bin Laden, runs his vast financial empire — estimated between $ 500 million and over a billion dollars — like a business establishment with franchise system. His financial support to Afghanistan, apart from his jehadi zeal, seems to be the main reason behind the impoverished land-locked country giving him refuge even in the face of imminent devastation at the hands of US-led multinational forces.
