New Delhi, September 15
Sensing changed security scenario in the Indian sub-continent the Indian Air Force (IAF) has increased surveillance along the western sector.

Besides keeping the air bases in the region in a state of high readiness, the IAF has been keeping surveillance along the borders with Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Rajasthan.

Sources here said that the increased surveillance along the western sector was for keeping watch on Pakistani build-up on the borders. With the fast-changing security scenario in the sub-continent India does not want to be caught offguard on any front.

Indian military and civil establishments have already been discussing change in the terrorists’ tactics following attacks in New York and Washington DC and India does not see itself removed from such possible attacks on vital installations.

Sources said, the IAF has also been in the air for keeping a watch on any untoward movement which might be noticed in any vulnerable pocket along the borders.

The IAF is keeping its bases in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Rajasthan in readiness for any possible assistance that might be asked also for by the United States of America in the eventuality of it launching attacks against the terrorist hideouts in the Indian sub-continent specially in Afghanistan.

American Secretary of State Colin Powell spoke to Indian Defence and Foreign Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh today and apparently sought details of the kind of assistance which New Delhi could provide to Washington in the time of need. Sources said among the bases which have been specially asked to be in a state of readiness are in Jammu, Ambala, Adampur and Jodhpur.

The IAF has also been asked specifically to provide with inputs regarding the assistance it would be in position to provide in the eventuality of an attack against the terrorist hideouts.Back
