Hisar, September 9
Sonia is accused of murdering her father, Mr Relu Ram Poonia, a former MLA and seven other members of the family, was today remanded in to police custody for a day. Eight of her relatives including her father-in-law and mother-in-law, arrested yesterday for sheltering her husband Sanjeev wanted in connection with the murders, were sent to judicial custody for 14 days.

Sonia and the others were produced before a Magistrate today. The police sought extension of Sonia’s remand on the ground that an arms licence was required to be recovered from Delhi. The Magistrate agreed to extend the remand by a day only.

An unseemly situation was created in the court compound when Sonia was brought there. Visibly upset by the presence of photo journalists, Sonia freed herself from the policemen’s grip and ran after them. She caught hold of one photographer of a local eveninger and threw his camera on the ground.

The policemen caught hold of her, much to the relief of media persons. Later, she was produced before the magistrate.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister Mr Om Prakash Chautala, today visited the residence of Poonia and assured the villagers that the case would be investigated properly.

He said the investigation had been handed over to the Vigilance Department. Nobody involved in the crime would be spared. He appealed to the public to cooperate with the police in the investigation. Anybody having information about the case could contact him directly.
