Badal empowers farmers
 Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal41,000 power connections of farm tubewells to be regularised
Chandigarh, September 7
 In an effort to keep the farming community on its side, the Punjab Chief Minister, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, today announced a series of benefits for rural consumers. The foremost of these is the regularisation of all 41,000 temporary power connections for agriculture tubewells given for paddy sowing season and slashing the charges for these connections from Rs 10,000 to Rs 5,000 per horse power.

SI killed, 10 hurt in blast
Srinagar, September 7
 A Sub-Inspector of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was killed and 10 jawans were injured in a powerful IED blast on the Jammu-Srinagar highway last night, a police spokesman said today. The IED was planted by militants near lower Munda, about 100 km from here, and detonated when a CRPF convoy was passing by the only road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country.

Paddy MSP hiked by Rs 20

The Vajpayee government today effected a modest increase of Rs 20 in the minimum support price (MSP) of common paddy from the existing Rs 510 per quintal to Rs 530 per quintal for the current kharif season.

Fourth Director in four months

The government today appointed Dr D.R. Yadav as officiating Director of the PGIMS. He continues to hold the charge of Forensic Medicine Department. He replaces Dr P.L. Jindal, Director-General, Health Services, Haryana whose appointment was not approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI) as a result of which admissions to the MBBS in Haryana were held in abeyance.
