6 Army men die in IED blast
Three soldiers killed in Pak shelling

Srinagar, August 29
At least nine bus passengers, including six Army men and three civilians, were killed and 12 injured in an IED blast near Ashmuqam in Anantnag district of south Kashmir this afternoon.

The police here confirmed the death of five persons, including three Army men and two civilians. The driver and conductor of the bus were among those injured. These injured have been shifted to hospitals in Anantnag and Srinagar, where the condition of 10 is stated to be serious.

The police said the bus (JK01 3632) was blown up by an IED planted by suspected militants at Hangal Payas near Ashmuqam, 25 km from Anantnag.

Inspector-General of Police A.K. Bhan said the entire area around the scene of the explosion had been cordoned off.

No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the explosion.

Three Army personnel were killed and several injured as Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked and indiscriminate shelling on forward Indian positions along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri Sector of north Kashmir today.

Sources said Pakistani troops shelled Rustam post area near Nambla village early today, killing three soldiers. Several jawans were also injured in the shelling, which was apparently aimed at pushing armed militants into the Kashmir valley.

The security forces killed foreign militant Abu Hamza and found a rifle with two magazines and 50 rounds at Maidan Pora in the frontier district of Kupwara.

In a joint operation, the Army and the Special Operations Group of the police killed an unidentified militant at Wagar in Badgam district last evening. A rifle and two magazines were recovered from the slain militant.

The police recovered the decomposed body of former militant Mohammad Subhan Chopan in Baramula last evening. Militants killed Ghulam-ud-Din Dad at his Kalaroos residence while militants shot dead Abdul Hamid Bhat at Handwara last evening.

Militants forced their entry into the house of Mehmood Khan at Inderpora in Kupwara district last night and shot him dead while his brother Abdul Khaliq was injured in the incident. A report from Jammu said at least three intruders were killed by the Border Security Force (BSF) at the Khora in Samba Sector of Jammu region last night.
