Safety surcharge to net 5,000 cr

Train passengers will have to pay a safety surcharge ranging from Re one to Rs 100 on every ticket and seasonal pass from October 1, to help the Indian Railways raise Rs 5,000 crore in the next six years for a newly created Non-lapsable Special Railway Safety Fund.

At least nine bus passengers, including six Army men and three civilians, were killed and 12 injured in an IED blast near Ashmuqam in Anantnag district of south Kashmir this afternoon.
