14 killed, 9 kg of RDX seized

Srinagar, August 25
Fourteen persons, including five militants, a couple and the kin of a National Conference leader, were killed and four wounded in Jammu and Kashmir, where security forces arrested two militants and recovered nine kg of RDX since last night, an official spokesman said today.

The nephew of senior National Conference leader Gulam Qadir Wani and another person were killed by militants at Ghat and Sirgwar-Keshewan in Doda last evening, he said.

Two foreign mercenaries were killed in a gunbattle with Army during a search operation at Chak-e-Arsalan Khan in Baramula district in north Kashmir today, the spokesman said.

A Pakistani militant, Saidullah Abu Ushama, of the Harkat-ul Jehad-i-Islami outfit was killed in an encounter with police at Peeri in Rajouri district late last night.

In Doda district, a militant was killed in an encounter with troops at Gandoh yesterday and another militant killed in Banihal, he said.

Militants killed a government school teacher in Kupwara district, the spokesman said.

The police found the body of a former militant from Hardu-Magam in Badgam district today, he said, adding that a village defence committee member was killed by militants at Basantgarh area of Udhampur district last night.

Militants killed a special police officer at Nasrullahpora in Badgam district of central Kashmir.

The body of an unidentified person was found from Kurigarh in Poonch district today.

In a joint operation, Army and BSF troops seized three 0.303 rifles, three magazines, 124 rounds, seven remote control devices and a police cap, all looted during an attack on Magam police station early this year, from paddy fields owned by Razak Khan, father of slain Hizbul commander Mustafa Khan at Goigam-Kunzer in Baramulla district last evening.

Meanwhile, additional companies of security forces have been deployed to enforce curfew restrictions which were imposed on Kishtwar on Friday. PTI
