Cloudburst kills 10 in Kulu

Shimla, August 22
At least 10 persons were killed as eight houses collapsed due to a cloudburst in Sarali and Badali villages in the Ani area of Kulu district early this morning.

Among those killed were four women. Only three bodies have been recovered so far. These have been identified as those of Tula Ram, Hukam Ram and his wife Devu. The cloudburst occurred at about 4.30 am while people were sleeping.

One house was washed away in Sarali village in which seven persons were killed. Only the body of Tula Ram has been recovered. Reports said his entire family consisting of his son Kirat Ram, wife Goyla and daughter Kadash died. Two children of Kirat Ram, Sunita and Hem Raj, were also washed away.

A guest, Chian Ram, who had come to their house from the neighbouring Dagsari village was also washed away.

About 10 cattle also perished in the two villages.

The Khanag road leading to Kulu via the Jaroli pass has been damaged at three places.
