Sinha allays fears on
rupee fall New Delhi, August 9 The RBI Governor, Dr Bimal Jalan, dismissed claims by a credit rating agency that India’s internal debt was growing fast and was high. “No internal debt crisis is there. I cannot comment on what they perceive. But I can tell you that as far as we are concerned the parameters are very good”. With comfortable reserves of $ 43 billion there was no need to bother about the rupee. “Keep the idea of a possible falling rupee value out of your mind”, Mr Sinha told newspersons on the impact of the downgrading of local currency. After SP downgraded India’s Mr Sinha felt the credit rating agencies were not always correct and referred to their failure to judge the East Asian crisis. Ashok Bhan appointed
SC Judge Chandigarh, August 9 According to a report received here, Mr Justice P.V. Reddy, Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, and Mr Justice Ashok Bhan have been appointed Judges of the apex court. Mr Justice Ashok Bhan, who was born on October 2, 1943, at Moonak in Sangrur district, is the son of Mr Brish Bhan, a former Chief Minister of Pepsu. A law graduate, he started his practice in 1965 besides working as a part-time lecturer in the Faculty of Law of Panjab University from 1969 to 1979. From November, 1979, to March, 1980, he was the Additional Advocate-General, of Punjab. |
