BJP Executive adopts resolution on NE New Delhi, July 29 Terming the recent crisis in Manipur as arising out of “misunderstanding of the recent agreement between the NSCN (I-M)”, the resolution said the people of Manipur had an apprehension that their territorial integrity would be affected. In an indirect reference to cross-border migration from Bangladesh, the resolution cautioned that “massive infiltration from a neighbouring country has adversely affected the social, political and electoral balance, apart from bringing about changes in the demographic profile of the area”. The area has become increasingly vulnerable to not only ISI activities, but also those of extremists and religious fundamentalists, the BJP National Executive observed. “Underground terrorist movements and secessionist activities are being carried on, disrupting normal life and severely jeopardising the smooth implementation of various developmental schemes and programmes”, the resolution said. Expressing “satisfaction” over the efforts made by the Centre to accelerate allround development in the region, the BJP National Executive has called for greater focus on infrastructure, including hydro-projects, roads and telecommunication and has also called for special emphasis and incentives for promoting small industries. It has also called for putting in place effective flood-control measures and scrapping of the Illegal Migrants (Determination Tribunals) (IMDT) Act. |
