10 feared dead in landslip Gomukh (Uttaranchal), July 5 According to sources in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police posted near Gomukh on the Indo-China border, those killed were pilgrims who had gone to Gangotri. shot Jammu, July 5 According to Defence Ministry reports, Indian border guards spotted a movement at Beri Patan village of Sunderbani belt in Rajouri district. The infiltrators were ordered to halt but the troops came under heavy fire. In retaliation, one militant was killed and two others escaped. The soldiers cordoned off the area and the moment they approached the hideout they came under fire. The troops returned the fire and eliminated two other infiltrators. Three assault rifles, six magazines and sniffer rifle, besides four hand grenades, were seized from the slain rebels. The reports said the Army patrol saw a group of three infiltrators sneaking into the Indian territory. One of the three had entered deep into “our territory” and the troops opened fire, killing him on the spot. Two more infiltrators who were trying to escape were killed on the spot. Three assault rifles, 12 magazines, 240 rounds of ammunition and three hand grenades were seized from them. The reports said agencies across the border were trying to sabotage the peace process by sending groups of militants trained in guerrilla activities into Jammu and Kashmir. The ministry sources said the security forces had been directed to intensify patrol. SRINAGAR: Five militants, including three belonging to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba, were among six persons killed and two others injured in separate militancy-related incidents in the valley since Wednesday night, an official spokesman said on Thursday. He said three Lashkar militants were killed in an encounter in Warsun-Kralpora forests in Kupwara district in North Kashmir on Wednesday. The operation was still continuing. The police apprehended a suspected militant from the Awantipora area of Pulwama district. The spokesman said two Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militants identified as Ghulam Jeelani, and his Pakistani accomplice Mohammad Hubaib Habshi were killed in an encounter with troops of the Rashtriya Rifles at Koil in the Bandipora area of Baramula district on Wednesday night. Body of an unidentified person was recovered by the police from Harwan on the outskirts of Srinagar today, he said, adding that a BSF jawan was injured when the militants opened fire on a patrol at Yachoo in Anantnag district early on Thursday. Meanwhile, a powerful blast caused by an improvised explosive device went off at Handru village, officials said. |
