Student crushed to death Faridabad, June 19 As many as 20 persons, including some employees of the roadways, were reportedly injured in the violence. According to information an ITI student, Ashok Kumar (21) of Garoda village, fell from the moving bus which was going to Delhi. It is learnt that he was trying to board the bus when he lost his balance and fell in front of one of the wheels. He died on the spot. This enraged other students and local residents started pelting stones and damaging buses. Some of the roadways employees sustained injuries after they were assaulted by the mob. A police team which reached the spot was gheraoed by the roadways staff in protest against the incident. It was alleged that the police reached late and if it had come in time, the violence could have been prevented. According to employees, some persons tried to set ablaze buses and a petrol station and loot staff. The protesters also blocked the road at Rajiv Chowk in old Faridabad. It was lifted after the intervention of senior officials. Over 30 buses are reported to have been damaged in the incident. The police has detained four youths on the basis of a complaint lodged with it. A section of the staff also went on strike against the assault by the mob. The body of the victim has been handed over to his family after a post-mortem examination at the Civil Hospital. The victim was to appear for a job interview. Agitating students also blocked traffic at several points on the Delhi-Mathura highway which disrupted traffic for over two hours. The driver of the bus has been booked. |
