Jagannath Kaushal dead

Chandigarh, May 31
Former Law Minister and veteran Congress leader Jagannath Kaushal died here early this morning following a prolonged illness. He was 86.

Mr Kaushal, who is survived by his wife, two sons, and six daughters, was admitted to a local private hospital about three weeks ago as he had reportedly developed a clot in the brain. He was discharged on May 27 following slight improvement. However, his condition worsened and he passed away around 6.30 am today.Back





R.S. Chaudhry may be INLD choice

Mr R.S. Chaudhry, Vice-Chancellor of Kurukshetra University, is likely to be the choice of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) for nomination to the Rajya Sabha. The nomination papers for the seat, which fell vacant following the death of Devi Lal, are to be filled by June 1.

Enquiries made by The Tribune indicated that Mr Om Prakash Chautala and his senior political colleagues are reported to have made up their mind to nominate Mr Chaudhry. It is learnt that in consultation with senior political colleagues and his two sons, Mr Ajay Chautala, MP, and Mr Abhay Chautala, MLA, the Chief Minister has decided to nominate a non-Jat for the Rajya Sabha seat.Back
