India says no to referendum
Rules out Hurriyat participation in talks

Declaring Kashmir as core of Indian nationalism, External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh today rejected Islamabad’s demand for a referendum in the state and ruled out any role for the All-Party Hurriyat Conference in the Vajpayee-Musharraf talks.

Talks only solution, says Pant

Mr K.C. Pant, today expressed the hope that the initiation of talks with various Kashmiri groups would lead to “the restoration of peace and development” which was necessary to move towards a political settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir problem.

VHP leader hurt in bomb blast

The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader and Vice-President of the Ram Janambhoomi Trust, Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, and four others were injured in a bomb attack early today at Ahilya Ghat on the bank of Saryu, VHP sources said.

“Any dissatisfaction with decisions of officials of the university or its bodies and their open criticism through Press statements would be construed as an unconstitutional and indisciplinary activity,” reads the April 25 decision of the Syndicate of Punjabi University against which teachers are up in arms claiming it to be a direct attack on their “freedom of expression”.
