Cabinet expansion in early June
New Delhi, May 17
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee is expected to undertake a reshuffle-cum-expansion of his Council of Ministers in the first week of June. With the mini General Election in four states and the union territory of Pondicherry out of the way, where the BJP did not have any real stakes, some realignment of political forces at the Centre is on the cards.

The Army Court of Inquiry (CoI) has recommended initiation of ‘criminal proceedings’ as well as administrative action against Maj-Gen P. S. K. Choudhary, former Additional Director-General, Weapons and Equipment, while choosing to proceed cautiously against the other Army officers accused of accepting unlawful gratification from tehelka.com reporters posing as arms dealers.

Water shortage reports hit tourism

Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation Chairman Rakesh Pathania today said that bookings worth Rs 7.5 lakh had been cancelled in corporation hotels by tourists in the past three days following reports of water shortage in several parts of the state.

50,000 for tip-off on monkey-man
New Delhi, May 17
The mysterious monkey-man crossed the trans-Yamuna area and struck in a big way last night in the Capital, specially in South and West Delhi, leading to the death of a person in the Shakurpur area of North-West district of the Delhi police.

15 militants killed in J&K
Jammu, May 17
At least 11 militants were killed today across Jammu. Some of them were said to be involved in the massacre of seven persons at Atholi village in Kishtwar on May 10.

To plead cause of ‘black-listed’ Punjabis

In a significant development, Mr Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister, has decided to take up the issue of “black-listed” Punjabis who had shifted to various countries during the peak of militancy with Mr Lal Krishan Advani, Union Home Minister, during his proposed meeting scheduled for tomorrow.
