Intelligence coordination group to be set up
New Delhi, May 11
In a far-reaching move to revamp the national security apparatus, the Cabinet Committee on Security tonight decided to integrate three headquarters of the armed forces and set up an intelligence coordination group but left the idea of Chief of Defence Staff for consultations with the opposition and NDA partners.

Curfew clamped on Kishtwar

Indefinite curfew restrictions were imposed on Kishtwar town today following tension having gripped the town after seven Hindus had been kidnapped and killed by the militants at Atholi village near Padar in Doda district.

Repoll in 302 booths in 3 states

The Election Commission today ordered repoll in 302 polling booths in Assam, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu where polling in yesterday’s Assembly elections was marred by violence, snatching of ballot papers and intimidation of voters.

As per the latest provisional census figures, Ludhiana with a population of 30.30 lakh, ranks number two in Punjab, next only to Amritsar. But in terms of growth rate, Ludhiana tops with 24.79 per cent (1991-2001).
