3 die as van hits Chief Secy’s escort vehicle

Kaithal, April 30
Three persons, including a head constable, were killed and 12 others, including two women and a child, were injured in a road accident here today, the police said.

According to information, the accident took place when a Maruti van carrying members of a family from Ambala was coming to Kaithal for some ceremony hit the police escort vehicle accompanying the Chief Secretary, Haryana, near Jagdishpura village. The van driver was also killed. Three of the injured, who are in serious condition, have been referred to the PGI, Chandigarh. The others have been admitted to the local Civil Hospital.

Deputy Commissioner Phateh Singh Dagar, the SP A.S. Chawla ADC J.P. Kaushik and SDM A.K. Bishnoi visited the injured at the hospital.

Ice-cream makes 165 kids ill

Kathua, April 30
More than 165 children fell sick today after consuming ice-cream at a festival in Mela village in the district and admitted in hospitals at Hiranagar, Kathua and Jammu.

According to the police, thousands of people from Hiranagar and Kathua were celebrating the festival at Ranpat Dev temple when children started complaining of stomachache after consuming ice-cream. They also started vomiting.

Twentyfive children, whose condition was critical, were shifted to Government Medical College, Jammu. The police has arrested the ice-cream vendor identified as Chaman Lal of Garnari village. Meanwhile, special medical teams have been sent for treatment of the children.
