Without rejecting the Centre’s offer for talks for restoration of peace in Jammu and Kashmir, the Hurriyat Conference today set conditions for entering into a dialogue with the Central Government.

The government said today that the recent appraisal reports prepared by the Income Tax authorities have not found any material to conclude that Home Minister L. K. Advani and Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha were guilty of amassing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.

30-member JPC to probe stock scam
New Delhi, April 26
The Government today announced the appointment of a joint parliamentary committee (JPC), comprising 20 members from the Lok Sabha and 10 from the Rajya Sabha to probe the recent stock scam.

BSF files FIR against BDR
Mankachar (Indo-Bangladesh Border), April 26
The BSF has lodged an FIR complaining of international war crime against the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) for the “inhuman” killing of 16 BSF jawans on April 18, Office-in-Charge Mankachar police station Anil Deka said.

Rs 3,021 cr Plan for Punjab

The Planning Commission today approved the Rs 3,021-crore Annual Plan for Punjab for 2001-02, which is 25 per cent more than the Rs 2,420-crore Plan approved for 2000-01.

Enron’s DPC to scrap pact
London, April 26
In a major setback to India’s power sector, Enron’s Dhabol Power Company board empowered its management to sever power supply agreement with Maharashtra State Electricity Board, a move that could inflict a financial liability of Rs 2840 crore on the Centre.

Sinha comes to HP’s rescue

With the Centre agreeing to clear the state’s overdraft, the financial crisis which forced the Reserve Bank of India to issue orders to stop payment to government cheques yesterday is likely to be over by tomorrow.
