Sarpanch, jawan among 7 killed in valley

Srinagar, April 21
A newly elected Sarpanch and a security force jawan were among seven persons killed while security forces seized rockets, RDX and grenades in Jammu and Kashmir during the past 24 hours.

Security forces seized seven rockets, 100 detonators, four remote-controlled devices, 29 grenades, 17 kg RDX and other explosives, one high explosive bomb and two anti-tank mines during different search operations across the state during the period, an official spokesman said.

A newly elected Sarpanch, Lala Wani, who was critically wounded at Sonarwani Bandipora yesterday died in hospital this morning.

Militants kidnapped and killed Nazir Ahmad at Sirhama this morning while three persons were injured when a grenade lobbed by militants at Baramula missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside last evening.

He said two persons, including a woman, Saleema were injured in a firing incident at Tranka in Doda district of the Jammu region last evening. Saleema later died in hospital, he said but could not give details about the firing.

The spokesman said unidentified militants shot dead a computer technician, Gulzar Ahmad, who was a resident of Waripora, at Batmaloo today.

He said the Special Operation Group of the Jammu and Kashmir police and security forces in a joint operation killed an unidentified militant at Doru in south Kashmir district of Anantnag last evening. UNI
