CBI begins scrutiny of scam papers

New Delhi, April 1
The CBI has begun a scrutiny of documents pertaining to the Rs 843-crore stock market scam, including the Rs 137 crore pay order scandal involving leading stock broker Ketan Parekh, highly-placed CBI sources said here today.

Four killed; blast averted
Srinagar, April 1
Four persons, including two militants, were killed, and two ultras arrested in the Kashmir valley, where police averted a tragedy with the detection of a grenade in Anantnag today, an official spokesman said here.

40 pilgrims killed in Pak shrine stampede
Pak Pattan, Pakistan, April 1
About 40 persons were killed and more than 100 injured in a stampede at a Muslim shrine in Pakistan’s central province of Punjab, ambulance workers and state media said on Sunday.

In a policy announcement, the government today refused permission to its national cricket team to play in the Sharjah three-nation tournament and advised the Board of Control for Cricket in India not to participate in ‘non-regular venues’ for at least next three years.

Bid to get passports for ultras
Jammu, April 1
Efforts are afoot to get passports issued to militants, especially foreign mercenaries, so that they have no problem in making Kashmir their second home. Government functionaries revealed that pro-Pak agencies were trying to motivate the authorities concerned in the passport office, the police and the CID to issue passports to militants under coded names.
