Vedanti holds meeting with Talwandi

Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti, Jathedar, Akal Takht, and Mr Jagdev Singh Talwandi, President, SGPC, today held a closed-door meeting at the latter’s office here today in an effort to resolve the current Panthic crisis before the beginning of the budget session.

The meeting was arranged at the behest of Sant Hardev Singh Lalton, an SGPC member. Though it was not known what transpired at the meeting, according to sources, “Sikh maryada” was discussed at length during the 30-minute talks.

Significantly, Giani Puran Singh, Head Granthi, Golden Temple, who has been keeping away from the meetings of High Priests at Akal Takht, was the first to perform the ‘sewa’ of Guru Granth Sahib before the general house meeting. Giani Kewal Singh, Jathedar, Damdama Sahib, who was ‘ex-communicated’ from the Sikh Panth by Giani Puran Singh in his capacity of Jathedar, Akal Takht, also reached the meeting venue.

However, Prof Manjit Singh, Jathedar, Kesgarh Sahib, could not attend the meeting. Prof Manjit Singh was also ‘ex-communicated’ from the Panth through a controversial ‘hukamnama’ issued by Giani Puran Singh.

Giani Bhagwan Singh, Head Granthi, Akal Takht, also attended the meeting. He was the third High Priest who was ‘ex-communicated’ through the controversial ‘hukamnama’ issued by Giani Puran Singh.

Jadeja marries Aditi Jaitley

Cricketer Ajay Jadeja today began a new innings in life tying the nuptial knot with his childhood sweetheart Aditi Jaitley, daughter of politician Jaya Jaitley. The popular cricketer was dressed in white “achkan” in traditional Rajasthani style. The marriage was solemnised at Kashmir House .

A host of leaders, including Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah and cricketer turned politician Kirti Azad were present on the occasion. PTI
