Youth dies, cops booked
Ashwani Dutta

Yamunanagar, March 20
Following the death of a youth in CIA staff custody today, main roads of the city were choked for hours by an angry mob.

Ashwani Vashisht (30) of Model Town, Yamunanagar, who was running car driving school, was picked up by eight persons of the CIA at 4 a.m. when around 12 noon, the news of Ashwani’s death spread like wildfire, protesting residents started throwing stones and bricks and jammed the main Yamunanagar-Jagadhri by pass.

According to the complaint lodged by Mr Raj Kumar, brother of the deceased, eight CIA employees entered their house and forcibly took away Ashwani. He also alleged that they demanded Rs 50,000 for his release. He further stated that at 11 a.m. two persons came to him and informed that the body of his brother was lying in Civil Hospital.

The mob took the body from the hospital and took it in a procession up to ITI chowk.

Mr Rajinder Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, and Ms Renu Phulia, SDM, Jagadhri, went to the site and tried to pacify the mob.

The DSP said a case under Section 302, IPC, had been registered against the cops and ASI Ajit Kumar arrested. He said that six more cops, including Sarvesh Kumar, Anang Paul, Bhadur Singh, Darshan Lal, Jagdev Rana and Raj Kumar, would be arrested.

The dead body till 5 p.m. was not allowed to be lifted for postmortem as the mob was out of control with the anti govt and anti police slogans.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that a magisterial inquiry has been ordered.
