High Priests under pressure Amritsar, March 7 However, the Sikh High Priests have not yet taken a final decision as they are equally responsible for the ‘violation’ of the Sikh maryada. It was the four Sikh High Priests, including Jathedars of Akal Takht, Kesgarh Sahib, Damdama Sahib and Head Granthi Akal Takht, who had refused to hold the meeting of Jathedars in absence of Giani Puran Singh in December last year. However, in a volte face, the High Priests held a meeting at Akal Takht recently in which Giani Puran Singh did not participate. Supporters of Giani Puran Singh claim that action should be initiated against the rest of the priests who themselves had ‘violated’ the maryada. On the other hand, certain Sikh scholars have reportedly urged the Akal Takht Jathedar to initiate action against Giani Puran Singh on his reported remarks, that Sikhs were
descendents of ‘Luv and Kush’. They said Giani Puran Singh had not so far rebutted his statement. However, the scholars feel that if the High Priests initiate action against Giani Puran Singh on the basis of his statement on ‘Luv and Kush’ it could open a pandora’s box. Giani Puran Singh had given this statement on the basis of ‘Dasam Granth’ which is recited in Damdami Taksal, Takht Patna Sahib and Takht Hazur Sahib
