Quake jolts Central Asia
Kabul, February 25
An earthquake measuring up to 6.7 on the Richter scale rocked Central Asia today, panicking residents from Kabul to New Delhi and prompting many to flee their homes. Seismologists said the earthquake’s epicentre was in northern Afghanistan near the Tajikistan border.
No casualties have been reported from the quake, which was felt in India, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.

Raise import duties: Sonia
Blasts Centre for being anti-farmer
New Delhi, February 25
Congress President Sonia Gandhi today said the Centre should raise import duties on agricultural products in the forthcoming Budget so that farmers of the country get remunerative prices for their crops.
Addressing a big kisan rally here today, Mrs Gandhi said import duties on agricultural goods were not adequate and this was directly hitting the farmers.

The All-Party Hurriyat Conference, the largest conglomerate of 23 political and religious organisations, is facing a threat to its existence following a verbal duel between People’s Conference headed by Mr Abdul Gani Lone and Jamait-e-Islami leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. During the past three months, Mr Geelani is being gradually isolated.
