Mann was subsequently admitted to the Sector 32 Government Medical College and Hospital. His condition was reported to be stable. According to doctors on duty, Mann had been shifted to a private ward.

Terming as “baseless” rumours regarding his sustaining a head injury, the doctors added that the singer was being kept under observation for 24 hours.

Sources in the hospital stated that Mann was injured just above the right eyebrow. The wound, they added, had been sutured and would take some time to heal.

Director-Principal, GMCH Prof S.B.S. Mann, when contacted late in the evening, said Mann was “conscious, out of danger and able to move around”.

Mann was reportedly on his way to Nakodar when the mishap occurred at about 2 p.m about 11 km short of Ropar. Eyewitnesses said the truck, bearing registration number USY 6971, collided with the car after the wheel on the driver’s side came off.

They added that the car, bearing registration number DL-1C-E-7013, was badly crushed in the collision and the driver’s body was removed from “the mass of mangled iron”. Mann, dazed but conscious, was immediately rushed to the city. The reason behind his visit to Nakodar was not yet known. He was reportedly travelling without his troupe.

A case of causing death by rash and negligent driving has, meanwhile, been registered against the driver of the truck. The driver had, however, absconded said sources.

Gurdas Mann, who shot into fame with song Dil da mamla hai, was in town yesterday on the invitation of Alpha Punjabi channel. Living up to his reputation of being a great stage performer, he enthralled the audience at Panjab University, along with his fellow singers Harbhajan Mann, Gursewak Mann etc.

Mann is now more famous for his recent pop number — Jadugariyaan kardi ae sade naal which has been shot with the famous ramp model Rajlakshmi in the lead.
