NEW DELHI, Jan 7 . Patch-up efforts by Defence Minister George Fernandes to end dissidence within the Samata Party failed today and the six rebel MPs decided to stay away from the two-day national council meeting beginning in Mysore tomorrow.

30 injured in J&K blasts

SRINAGAR, Jan 7 . At least 30 persons, including four Army personnel, were injured in two different blasts while militants killed three persons in the Kashmir valley since last evening.

Vajpayee reaches Vietnam
NEW DELHI, Jan 7 . Giving a new dimension to the country.s .Look East. policy, Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee this evening reached Hanoi after having left New Delhi for Vietnam and Indonesia on a week-long visit during which several agreements in the fields of economy agriculture, tourism and culture will be signed.

CHANDIGARH, Jan 7 . Cold wave claimed life of one beggar in Punjab even as mercury remained below normal in most parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh with temperature touched four degrees below normal in Ludhiana making it the coldest place in the region.
