Mosque attacked, one killed

CHENNAI, Dec 10 (UNI) — A group of miscreants hurled hand grenades and hacked to death a person inside the precincts of a mosque at KTC Colony near Palayamkottai in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu early today.

According to reports received here, two persons-Abdul Raheed and Ismail—were preparing food inside the mosque when a group of persons scaled the compound wall and hurled hand grenades at them.

While Ismail fled the scene on hearing the sound of the blast, Raheed, injured in the explosion, was caught by the gang and hacked to death.

The police, however, disputed the blast theory. Sources said that the group assaulted Raheem when he confronted them and had only burst some cracker-like things to scare people away.
