Widow seeks justice from NHRC FATEHABAD, Nov 25 — Having failed to get justice from the local police, a young widow has been running from pillar to post to bring to book those responsible for the suicide of her husband. The accused are said to be influential persons. She has now sent letters to the National Human Rights Commission, the Rashtriya Mahila Ayog, the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala and senior police officers. Mrs Indu Bala has said her late husband Vijender Thakur was employed with a pesticide company. He had been under tension before he committed suicide on October 8 as he had discovered large-scale bungling in the accounts of the company in which he worked. His senior officers, when they learnt about this allegedly tried to involve him in their racket. When he refused to oblige, they tried to liquidate him after giving him liquor. Mrs Indu Bala has said she asked her husband to lodge a complaint with the police, but he said his superiors had threatened to liquidate his entire family in case he did so. Her husband on the fateful day went to his bedroom and hung himself from the ceiling fan. He left a suicide note, naming five persons, including the manager of the pesticide company, to be held responsible for his death. The widow has said in the letter that the local police had been working hand in glove with the accused. The district police chief, Mr Hanif Qureshi, when contacted, said he had asked the DSP (City) to investigate into the matter and suitable action would be taken against anyone found guilty. |
