Class II status for school
lecturers HISAR, Nov 5 — The Haryana Government has granted class II gazetted status to school lecturers. This was announced by the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, while addressing the regional convention of Haryana School Lecturers Association held today. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said teachers were the architects of the future of the nation. He asked the teaching community to maintain cordial relations with their students so that ancient moral values could be restored. He cited the example of the gurukul system where students were obedient and disciplined and teachers were dedicated and sincere to their jobs. The Chief Minister said the new education policy had been introduced in the state to generate more employment for the youth. The new policy aimed at raising the standard of school education in the state. The older system was introduced by the British for preparing Indians only for white collar jobs. The main features of the new education policy were introduction of English language from class I and computer education from class IX. Mr Chautala said at least 10,000 school teachers were being recruited. All recruitments would be made purely on merit. He underlined the need for eradicating corruption at all levels. He said the newly appointed teachers would have to serve for at least five years in the rural areas. He clarified that those who had been serving in urban areas since joining service would also be required to serve in rural areas for a similar period. Referring to the lecturers’ demand for raising their pay scales, the Chief Minister said two committees, one under the chairmanship of the Finance Minister and the other headed by the Chief Secretary, had been constituted for the purpose. He assured the teaching community that their demands would be considered sympathetically. |
