29 killed, 46 hurt in valley
4 constables die in blast at Baramula

SRINAGAR, Nov 4 — Four police personnel were killed and 26 others injured when a blast took place inside the Police Training Centre in Baramula district last evening, while 25 others, including 17 militants, were killed and 20 others injured in separate incidents in Jammu and Kashmir since yesterday.

Four police constables were killed in an explosion in the Police Training Centre, at Sheeri in Baramula district at about 8 last night. The police said the blast took place in Barrack No. 5 of the centre, killing Constable Zaheer Ahmad on the spot and injuring 26 others, 18 of them seriously. The seriously injured were shifted to SMHS Hospital here for treatment. Three of the injured, Naseer Ahmad, Sultan Ahmad and Mohammad Afzal, all from Poonch district of the Jammu region later succumbed to their injuries.

Six militants were killed in an encounter with the security forces at Sangnad, Khiram in the Beijbehara area of Anantnag district today.

One militant of the Hizbul Mujahideen, Nazir Ahmad Malik, was killed by the security forces while attempting to throw a grenade on a patrol of the security forces at Firdous Colony, Bemina, here today. A pedestrian, Waseem Ahmad, was injured in the incident, according to the police. One hand grenade was recovered from the deceased militant.

A foreign militant, Umar, of Kahuta, Pakistan, and two security force personnel were killed in an encounter at Kuthipora, Nowgam, in Budgam district yesterday.

The police today recovered the bodies of two girls from the debris of a house at Wathora in Budgam district. They have been identified as Masrooma and Sabiya who had reportedly been killed in the encounter between the militants and the security forces yesterday. As already reported, four militants and four security force personnel were killed in the night-long operation yesterday.

In the Jammu region, seven militants were killed in an encounter with the security forces at BOP Peer Badasar in the Chengus sector of Rajouri district today. The encounter was going on till the last reports came in.

Two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with the police and Village Defence Committee (VDC) members at Dandkote in the Chassana sector of Udhampur district yesterday.

Two civilians were killed and 20 others injured when militants hurled a grenade at Seeri Bazar near Punjab National Bank, Bhaderwah in Doda district last evening.

Unidentified militants killed Abdul Rashid at Zai-Dhar, Chhatroo in Doda district last night. One person, identified as Mohammad Latif, was killed in a mine blast at Solki bridge in Rajouri district this morning.

Probe ordered

SRINAGAR, Nov 4 (PTI) — The Jammu and Kashmir Government today ordered a departmental inquiry into yesterday’s blast at the Police Training School at Shree in Baramula district which claimed four lives. 

Making the announcement while addressing trainees at the institute here, Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah said ex-gratia would be given to the next of kin of those killed in the blast.
