Raids fail to trace Nishan Singh NEW DELHI, Oct 29 — Punjab Police Constable Nishan Singh, Personal Security Officer (PSO) of the SGPC Chief Bibi Jagir Kaur, could not be traced despite the CBI’s Special Investigating Units raiding different parts of state today. Nishan Singh, who could provide vital clues in the Harpreet Kaur death case, has been at large since June 9, when the CBI registered a case against Bibi Jagir Kaur and others. The CBI’s Special Investigating Units raided different places in Punjab to trace Nishan Singh. However, the raids did not yield fruitful results, a senior CBI official told The Tribune. Even the two “request letters” sent by the CBI to the Punjab Police have proved futile to trace Constable Nishan Singh. The CBI has not, so far, issued any arrest warrant against Nishan Singh in the case. Nishan Singh, the agency said, could provide vital clues in the case in which the SGPC Chief has been charged with criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, wrongful confinement, causing mis-carriage without woman’s consent for the death of her daughter, Harpreet Kaur. Nishan Singh has been at large eversince the CBI had registered a case and had been asked twice by the CBI to appear before the agency’s SIU’s officials for questioning. Last week, a doctor informed a judicial magistrate under oath that he had given false statement to the CBI at the behest of SGPC Chief Bibi Jagir Kaur. Dr Tarsem Singh had stated to the CBI that he had examined Harpreet Kaur on April 20 and declared her dead on way to Christian Medical College, Ludhiana. And, Prof Jaswant Singh was also there when he examined the daughter of Bibi Jagir Kaur. Retracting his statement, Dr Tarsem told the Judicial Magistrate that “he and Prof Jaswant Singh did not visit the residence of Dalwinder Kaur Dhesi on April 20, the night Harpreet Kaur died there.” And, he did not examine Harpreet Kaur nor did he declare her dead, Dr Tarsem stated under oath. The Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the CBI to investigate the case on a petition filed by Kamaljit Singh. He had moved the court to seek direction for registering a case against all those found responsible for causing Harpreet Kaur’s and her child’s death and had urged the High Court to hand over the investigation to an independent investigating agency. |
