ULFA militants massacre 15
GUWAHATI, Oct 23 — In a major strike in recent times, ULFA militants gunned down 15 persons, mostly petty traders and cultivators, in two strikes in upper Assam’s Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts late last night, senior police officials said.

I lied at Bibi’s behest: witness
 NEW DELHI, Oct 23 — In a significant development in the Harpreet Kaur death case, a key witness has told a Judicial Magistrate under oath that he had given “false statements” to the CBI at the behest of SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur.

Bibi’s supporters meet Vedanti
AMRITSAR, Oct 23 — Even as supporters of Bibi Jagir Kaur today asked Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti to summon Mr Sukhjinder Singh, a former Akali Minister, his son Sukhpal Singh Khehra, a PPCC secretary, Kamaljit Singh (who claimed to be the husband of the deceased Harpreet Kaur) and his parents at Akal Takht, the Sarb Hind Shiromani Akali Dal urged the Jathedar to direct the SGPC chief to tender her resignation immediately.

Bibi has no faith in judiciary: Kamaljit
JALANDHAR, Oct 23 — Kamaljit Singh, the alleged husband of Harpreet Kaur, the daughter of SGPC chief Bibi Jagir Kaur, today said he and his family were ready to present themselves before Akal Takht if summoned by Akal Takht Jathedar.

 SRINAGAR, Oct 23 — Defence Minister George Fernandes has said that infiltration of armed militants along the borders in Jammu and Kashmir has been on the increase. He ruled out any repeat of Kargil-like situation as the LoC is adequatetly manned by troops.

LTTE shoots down copter
COLOMBO, Oct 23 — An MI-24 helicopter of the Sri Lankan Air Force was shot down by the LTTE rebels, while two passenger vessels of the Sri Lankan Navy were destroyed after a Sea Tiger suicide boat entered the Eastern Trincomalee harbour and rammed into the berthed vessels this morning, a defence official said.
