Manhunt
on to trace Nishan
JALANDHAR, Oct 20 —
Pressurised by the CBI, the Punjab police has finally launched a manhunt
to trace Nishan Singh by forming a team of police officers to trace the
missing ASI, attached with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee
chief, Bibi Jagir Kaur, as her gunman.

Defence Minister, Mr George Fernandes, hopes to discuss with the Jammu
and Kashmir Government the proposal of posting Indian Administrative
Service (IAS) officers straight out of probation to the state in a bid
to give fresh direction to the administration there.

Israel refuses to
help in UN probe
GENEVA, Oct 20 — Israel
said today that it refuses to cooperate with a United Nations inquiry
into alleged human rights violations in the West Bank and Gaza. The
Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement rejecting a resolution
passed yesterday by the UN Human Rights Commission condemning Israel
for “widespread, systematic and gross violation of human rights.”
