Bibi’s arrest after probe: CBI NEW DELHI, Oct 11—The CBI, which raided several places in Punjab in connection with the Harpreet Kaur death case, is going slow on the arrest of the deceased’s mother and SGPC Chief, Bibi Jagir Kaur, pending thorough investigation and adequate material evidence. “The investigation in the case is still on and there is no immediate plan to arrest Bibi Jagir Kaur,” a senior CBI official told The Tribune here today. According to CBI sources, the sleuths of the Special Investigation Cell want to ensure adequate material evidence and tying of loose ends in the case before reaching out to Bibi Jagir Kaur, against whom an FIR was lodged on the direction of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Meanwhile, Dalvinder Kaur, who is said to be a close friend of Jagir Kaur, was today remanded in police custody till October 15 by a Delhi court here. The Metropolitan Magistrate ,Mr Gulshan Kumar, who personally visited Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where she was admitted, pronounced the order after examining the medical report. She has since been discharged from the hospital. Dalvinder Kaur, who has been charged with criminal conspiracy and illegal confinement of Harpreet Kaur, was remanded in judicial custody till October 9. Her judicial remand was extended for two more days after she was admitted to the hospital. The police remand of Dalvinder Kaur would enable the CBI to interrogate her in the light of the various raids, including the one on her bungalow in Phagwara, Jasdil Mansion. Meanwhile, Nishan Singh, the Personal Security Officer (PSO) of Bibi Jagir Kaur failed to appear before the CBI for questioning despite the latter asking him to present himself before the bureau through the Punjab Police. “He was summoned for questioning yesterday through the Punjab Police, but he did not turn up,” the official said. Questioning of Nishan Singh would be crucial for the investigators, as he could provide vital information relating to the case. Asked whether the CBI would give a fresh date to Nishan Singh for appearance or it would try to arrest him, he merely said ,“A decision in that regard will be taken in a couple of days.” The CBI had on October 6 questioned at length Kamaljit Singh, who claims to be the husband of Harpreet Kaur, and claims that the five persons arrested by the CBI were closely related to Jagir Kaur. While the CBI had arrested Dalvinder Kaur from Delhi, the other four accused— Harminder Kumar, Satya Kumari, Paramjit Singh and Sanjeev Kumar– were arrested from Phagwara in Punjab on October 4. The CBI had registered an FIR against Bibi Jagir Kaur after the Punjab and Haryana High Court on June 9 directed the investigating agency to probe the case on a petition filed by Kamaljit Singh. Harpreet Kaur, alias Rosy, who was pregnant, had died on April 21 under mysterious circumstances. |
