Illustration by R.R. Laxman, photograph by N.RamOne of the greatest story-tellers of the 20th century, R.K. Narayan, turns 94 on October 10. The hallmark of his writing is that he has successfully fused his own personal philosophy with his literary endeavour. In fact, if sincerity is the touchstone of all great literature, then this quality in Narayan, uncompromising, gently ironic, sympathetic and humanistic, shines through all his work. It will ensure that Malgudi will live on. Rajnish Wattas delves into the world of RKN, and also talks to his biographer N. Ram, to unravel the magic of Malgudi and its creator.
