Chhota Rajan held, to be sent back to India BANGKOK Oct 6 (PTI) —
The Thai police today arrested Mumbai underworld don Chhota Rajan for
entering into the country on an “illegal” passport and said he would
be sent back to India after his trial. Immigration police chief Lt-Gen Hemaraj Theerathai said Vijay Kadam, alias Chhota Rajan, was arrested after a three-member Mumbai police team, which arrived here yesterday, confirmed that the passport on which the don entered Thailand was not genuine. “This allowed the Thai immigration police to detain him for illegal entry,” he added. “Kadam is under arrest and won’t be allowed to leave the country until his trial for illegal entry is over. Then he will be sent back to India where he is wanted for many charges,” General Theerathiai said. Under the Thai law, a person is deported to the country of his origin if he is charged with illegal entry after his trial for the charge. The immigration police chief said that Mumbai police also showed to them Rajan’s criminal records in India. He said Rajan, who has been undergoing treatment for bullet wounds received during a murderous assault would continue to stay in the hospital under police custody and “cannot leave the place without immigration police permission.” Rajan was almost ready to fly out of Thailand yesterday after General Theerathai announced that he was going to let the don free as the Indian police had not asked for his extradition. The Thai authorities, however, later apparently changed their mind after the arrival of the Mumbai police team and withheld his release documents and passport, thus preventing him from leaving Thailand. They also blacklisted Rajan from reentering the country in view of his arrest warrants in India. LUCKNOW: In a major breakthrough, the UP special task force (STF) has arrested a Pakistani Noor Baksh, who was involved in the attack on mafia don Chhota Rajan in Bangkok on September 14. CBI questions Kamaljit NEW DELHI, Oct 6 (PTI) — The CBI today questioned Kamaljit Singh, who claims to be the husband of Harpreet Kaur, teenaged daughter of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee
(SGPC) chief Jagir Kaur, who died under mysterious circumstances recently. The investigating officers of the special crime branch questioned her for nearly two hours and also asked him to identify the five persons arrested by the agency yesterday from Punjab and Delhi. Emerging out of the
CBI office, he said he was happy that the momentum of the case had picked up and expressed hope that Bibi Jagir Kaur would be arrested soon. Kamaljit Singh alleged that the five persons arrested by the
CBI were closely related to Jagir Kaur. He also alleged that the younger sister of Harpreet was not allowed to meet anyone and hoped that the agency would secure her presence out from the “illegal confinement”. The five persons arrested in connection with her death were being interrogated by the sleuths. Four of them — Harminder Kumar, Satya Kumari, Paramjit Singh and Sanjeev Kumar, who were arrested from Phagwara — were brought to Delhi today and produced in the court of Jaspinder Singh. The fifth accused identified as Dalvinder Kaur was arrested here. The Punjab and Haryana High Court had directed the
CBI on June 9 to probe the circumstances leading to the death of Harpreet Kaur and submit its report within four months. The court direction came on Kamaljit Singh’s petition seeking a
CBI inquiry into her death. Tribune News Service adds from Chandigarh:
A special team of the Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday questioned six members of the police escort party of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee chief, Bibi Jagir Kaur, at the UT Guest House here. The CBI team, headed by Superintendent of Police Harbhajan Ram, questioned one Assistant Sub-Inspector, one Head Constable and four constables. The questioning continued for more than an hour. Those questioned were Assistant Sub-Inspector Ganga Singh, Head Constable Sucha Singh and constables Sanjiv Kumar, Ram Lubhaya and Jaswinder Singh. They all belong to the Kapurthala police. The fourth constable, a driver, Sardara Singh, belongs to the security wing of the Punjab police. These policemen were mainly asked about the role of Assistant Sub-Inspector Nishan Singh, the personal security officer of Bibi Jagir Kaur. The CBI has listed 31 persons for questioning in the Harpreet Kaur case. |
