Pilot’s widow wins Dausa LS seat

NEW DELHI, Oct 3 (PTI) — Ms Rama Pilot, widow of Rajesh Pilot, rode the sympathy wave to win the Dausa Lok Sabha seat for the Congress defeating the nearest BJP rival Rohitashav Kumar by a margin of over 65,000 votes.

In simultaneous byelections for eight Assembly seats in as many states, the Congress topped its impressive show in recent civic polls in Gujarat by retaining a seat each in Gujarat, neighbouring Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra but had little to cheer about in Karnataka, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

The party retained Shaherkotda in Gujarat and Lakhnadon in Madhya Pradesh against nearest BJP rivals and Shahuwadi in Maharashtra against an Independent.

It was also shocked at the Lunkaransar seat in Rajasthan by the BJP while the JD (U) wrested the Kagwad seat in Karnataka from it.

The party suffered a jolt in Karnataka losing the Kagwad Assembly seat to Janata Dal (U) whose nominee Bharamagouda Alagouda Patil defeated Vijaya Pasagouda Patil by a slender margin of 1,019 votes.

Congress candidate Shaliesh Parmar defeated Tulsi Dhabi by a margin of 7,148 votes in Shaherkotda while in Lakhnadon its candidate Beni Parte trounced Ram Pyare Kulaste of the BJP by a margin of over 24,000 votes and in Shahuwadi, Congress candidate Sanjivanidevi Gaikwad defeated Independent candidate Babasaheb Patil by a margin of 4,121 votes.
